Editorial: Taxi sector slow to act on driver safety
...It is a moot point whether this is a matter that should require Government intervention.
Such is the level of assaults on cabbies, often spurred simply by a desire to evade fares,
that it might have been assumed taxi companies would have already taken the initiative.

Melbourne's taxi numbers to about 4000.

Taxi companies look set to fail deadline for extra cabs

ABU DHABI // By today, there were supposed to be more than 7,000 cabs on the capital’s streets. But there aren’t. And that, the taxi regulator TransAD said yesterday, could eventually spell trouble for two firms that seem unlikely to meet the deadline for having more than 1,000 cars on the streets.

By One Vote Senate Approves Cell Phone Driving Ban

The Maryland State Senate today voted 24-23 to approve a bill banning the use of handheld cell phones while driving. Under the bill, a violation would only be a secondary offense, meaning police would have to stop a motorist for another violation before issuing a ticket for talking on a cell phone. |

A BID by two cabbies to challenge compulsory cameras in Southampton taxis has been struck out before their case could be heard. Southampton City Council persuaded a judge that it should go no further as the pair were effectively appealing against a change of policy not a licensing condition requiring the controversial cameras.
