WHO WE ARE

IATR is a growing peer group of taxi, limousine and for-hire transportation regulators, dedicated to improving the practice of licensing, enforcement and administration of for-hire transportation through the sharing of information and resources.  Member jurisdictions are:

  • Taxi Commissions and Committees, solely responsible for the governance and control of taxi licencing and enforcement
  • Police Departments and other law enforcement agencies with responsibility for taxis
  • Consumer Protection and Transportation Departments of cities and regions, with responsibility for public safety and service quality
  • Airport Authorities
  • State and federal agencies responsible for limousines and other motor carriers, where there are cross-jurisdictional issues

IATR member jurisdictions represent some of the largest cities in the United States, Canada, and Europe.  And our membership is growing.  By joining IATR, you will gain access to the knowledge and experience of nearly 100 jurisdictions, and stay on top of the emerging topics that your jurisdiction may need to address.  These include:

  • Meter rate regulation, including fuel surcharges
  • Issuing taxi licences, including new approaches to issuing licences for accessible taxis and fuel efficient vehicles
  • Vehicle maintenance and inspection issues, and how to set standards in regulation
  • Driver safety issues including requirements for safety equipment in regulation
  • Recent court cases and the outcomes that set legal precedent

IATR - A NECESSITY IN LEAN TIMES

Save staff time and start your research and investigation of best practices with member-only access to the IATR website.  Joining IATR is like getting a staff person for $380 a year.  IATR membership is particularly beneficial for regulators that oversee taxis as part of their larger mandate.  If your administrative, licencing, enforcement and research staff are responsible for more than one ordinance, bylaw, code or industry, then IATR’s member services are designed for you.  Through the IATR website members gain access to:

    • A directory of key personnel in other jurisdictions, to help you reach the right contact when you need a peer
    • A searchable database of operational statistics, performance measures, and regulatory initiatives, to help you sort and easily locate like-minded jurisdictions.  Need to find a city that regulates pedicabs?  Or a city that mandates minimum training standards?  Or sets a maximum age for vehicles?  Then the searchable database is your place to start.
    • A library of reports, and studies undertaken by other jurisdictions.  When you need to do a report for a stakeholder committee, or elected officials on a new initiative, then the IATR  library of reports and studies will make your life easier.
    • A monthly newsletter reporting on newsworthy events in other jurisdictions
    • The ability to have a survey sent to all IATR members, to give you the data and answers you need

MEMBER TESTIMONIALS

  • MEMBERSHIP HAS IT'S REWARDS
"My IATR membership more than paid for itself recently.  When I needed data for our budget team, to defend the need for taxi inspections, IATR surveyed its members in just hours and got me the ammo I needed to turn the tide. Membership is great."
Mr. Leon Swain, Chairman, Washington Taxicab Commission

IATR'S PRIMARY BENEFIT - ANNUAL EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE

  • Each year, IATR holds a highly successful annual conference.  For three days, regulators from around the world share perspectives, experiences, statistics and even a laugh or two.  The planning for the upcoming 22nd Annual IATR Conference in New York City is proceeding at a rapid pace.  The theme of the entire conference will center on technology.  The numerous topics and breakout sessions will address both the use of technology to enhance the delivery of service to passengers, as well as the use of technology by regulators to run their agencies more efficiently.
  • This year, despite the economic troubles that government agencies are facing, we are expecting increased conference attendance.   This increased interest is not only the draw of our exciting and vibrant host city; but also from  regulators understanding that technology is an investment that allows our organizations to operate more efficiently in these fiscally challenging times.
  • Associate members are able to attend and participate in the annual educational conference business sessions, to profile their products and services at the 2-day tradeshow of products and services, and support the association through sponsorship.  If your business or interests are impactedby transportation regulation, the Annual IATR Conference is the most cost-effect and productive way to meet the regulators you need to speak with.
