Taxicab Administrator,

The Taxicab Administrator acts as the executive director to the Los
Angeles Board of Taxicab Commissioners, a five-member panel appointed by
the Mayor of Los Angeles.
The Department and the Board oversee nine franchised taxicab companies
operating 2,303 vehicles with about 3,700 active drivers.
The Taxicab Administrator also presents reports on taxicab-related items
to the Los Angeles City Council and Council committees.
The Taxicab Regulation Division has about 25 employees, including
transportation investigators, transportation engineers, clerical and
administrative staff.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tom Drischler attended high
school in Los Angeles. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology
from the University of Oregon (1974) and a Master's degree in Public
Administration (MPA) from the University of Southern California (1984).
Tom began working for the City of Los Angeles as a Transportation
Coordinator (Management Analyst) at Los Angeles International Airport
(LAX) in 1986. He authored and implemented the LAX Ground Transportation
Permit Program in 1987-89. Tom became L.A.'s first Taxicab Administrator
in 1999.
